State Auto Insurance Company is a company that understands that insurance is not something that you want to spend a lot of time thinking or dwelling about. It does its best to make your insurance dealings quick, easy, and fair. State Auto Insurance only uses independent agents to sell its insurance products.

State Auto Insurance Company has a presence in over 30 states in the country and offers not only car insurance but business, home, and specialty lines insurance as well. Although based out of Columbus, State Auto also has regional offices in Baltimore, Austin, Indianapolis and Nashville.

History of State Auto Insurance

State Auto Insurance was started in Columbus, Ohio by Robert Pein. It was 1921 when Pein began writing car insurance policies out of his home office. He promised satisfactory and prompt service for reasonable rates. In the year 1925, State Auto started policies that were non-assessable, which meant that additional fees would not befall policyholders if losses became unbearable.

State Auto survived the tumultuous time during the Great Depression and continued to expand and prosper over the next five decades. In 2004, State Auto was acknowledged as being one of only 15 insurance providers to have received an A+ rating from A. M Best every year since 1954. In 2005, State Auto came out with their CustomFit car policy, which allowed for flexible pricing and rewards for safe driving.

Car Insurance Coverage from State Auto Insurance

More than likely, you live in a state that has certain insurance requirements. Most states require that you carry liability insurance so that if you cause an accident the other party’s expenses for both the vehicle and injuries are covered. This will help prevent you being sued or other legal action.

Even though each state chooses what the minimum limits need to be, it is always a good idea to insure for more. To ensure that you will be covered for any accident, big or small, you should buy as much insurance as you can afford. An independent State Auto agent can help you figure out what and how much insurance coverage you should purchase.

The CustomFit Program that was started in 2005 is still going strong. With it, you can customize your car insurance for what works the best for you, both in terms of insurance needs and your budget. Through the CustomFit program, you can choose from physical damage coverage, liability, underinsured/uninsured motorist, and medical payments. There are also a number of optional coverage choices to enhance your auto policy.

Some states require that you have coverage for uninsured and underinsured motorists, while in other states it is optional. This helps cover expenses in the event you are in an accident with a driver that does not have the appropriate coverage. Without this type of coverage, you would have to sue the other driver for damages or end up paying for them yourself. Optional coverage includes things such as car rental coverage, roadside assistance and windshield coverage.

Many insurance companies will only cover the cost of the current cash value of your vehicle if it is totaled. If you have recently purchased a new car, there is no way you will be reimbursed for its cost. As an option to your policy, you can purchase replacement cost coverage. This will pay for what the replacement price is rather than the actual value.

Drivers over 45

State Auto offers a special program for those over the age of 45. For those with both a home and auto policy from State Auto, they are eligible for the program called Prime of Life. This program results in premium discounts as well as extra value coverage.
