50 Cent Car Collection
For many celebrities, vehicles are a way to show off their wealth and status. Cars are unique in that they are both artistic and functional; unlike a work of art that can only be enjoyed in a person’s home or a gallery, a car can be shown off anywhere. Some vehicles are extremely rare, leading to their desirability increasing and improving their overall quality as status symbols.
Celebrities aren’t the only people who collect cars as status symbols, but they often have the best collections. It’s definitely a point of pride for a celebrity to have many rare collector cars. In some cases, the car collection is well-known; for others, the celebrity may keep the collection hidden from public scrutiny.
Some celebrities choose expensive collector’s vehicles specifically for their aesthetic qualities, while others are more interested in the mechanical upkeep of antique or rare cars. For these collectors, the garage is nearly as important as the vehicles themselves. They may employ full-time mechanics, write columns for automotive magazines, open their show-rooms as museums or simply invest a lot of time and money into maintaining their collections.
Still others inflate claims of their collections or show off cars that are not really theirs as a marketing tool. Such is apparently the case with rapper 50 Cent. Although a popular video purports to show his car collection, it was originally filmed as a promotion for the MTV show Cribs, and some of the vehicles shown have been identified as belonging to Ferrari collector Stephen Cohen. Of course, some of the vehicles shown really do belong to the rapper, and estimates online of how many rare cars he actually owns vary widely.
50 Cent’s Ferrari Collection Controversy
The video shows a collection of beautiful cars, all the same shade of blue, parked outside of 50 Cent’s Beverly Hills mansion. Included among them are a Lamborghini Murcielago, Rolls Royce Ghost and Ferrari F430. In different interviews, he’s also been reported as owning a Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo and several Jaguars.
Shortly after the video was released, members of a Ferrari enthusiast forum identified the F430 as belonging to a known California collector, Stephen Cohen. The car was identified by a window sticker that can be viewed in the video, and viewers have suggested that some of the cars were borrowed for the taping.
Of course, 50 Cent is no stranger to such controversies. He has been accused of lying about many other things as a way to increase his credibility, such as the number of times he’s been shot. He’s also been accused of lip-synching, doing drugs backstage and other activities. Once a person has accumulated enough wealth and fame, rumors begin flying, and this is especially true of rappers whose reputations play a major role in establishing their fanbase.
Nevertheless, 50 Cent is confirmed to have some of the valuable vehicles in his collection, and the cars he owns are definitely valuable. His Rolls Royce was featured in the news when his bodyguards, having locked the keys in the car, were caught attempting to unlock the vehicle with a coat hanger. He was also pulled over while driving in his Lamborghini.
What Cars Does 50 Cent Own?
The Rolls Royce Phantom is 50 Cent’s primary car. This vehicle has been produced since 1925, but it stands out among competitors for being hand-made. These hand-made luxury vehicles are spacious and luxurious. Consumers can customize them from among 40,000 paint colors and numerous types of leather and wood paneling so that each car is tailored to the consumer’s desires. The vehicle costs about $300,000 retail, and there are less than 1,000 of them produced each year.
The musician’s other primary vehicle is a Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster. Unlike the large and luxurious Rolls Royce, the Lamborghini is small, sleek and extremely fast. The two-seater roadster has been in production for 10 years, although the model has been replaced this year. There were rumors that 50 Cent planned to sell the roadster, but it appears that he still owns it at this time.
These two autos are the ones the musician has been seen in most often. Other vehicles in his purported collection may or may not be in his possession at all times; as a celebrity, he has access to a wide variety of cars that he can borrow from for music videos, promotional materials and other things.
Dream Machines Appearance
Beyond the cars he owns, 50 Cent has also gotten media attention recently for his appearance on the TV show Dream Machines. The program, which airs on SyFy, challenges a team of designers to build a high-performance concept car of the kind usually seen in science fiction films.
The car they built for 50 Cent combined qualities of a fighter jet and a formula one race car. At the rapper’s request, the vehicle is road-legal, despite its sleek design and speedy mechanics. The white race car can be seen on the premier episode of the program.
Whether or not 50 Cent really owns a wide array of cars or merely a few select vehicles, he certainly has enough wealth accrued to buy anything that he wants. Of course, a musician with as much business acumen probably has wiser investments to make than an extensive collection, especially if collector vehicles are available to use when he wants them.
Indeed, there is no shame in borrowing or renting a luxury vehicle when the need arises rather than spending a substantial sum on buying one. For many of us, just riding in a Ferrari for a few days would be plenty, and it would save money on car insurance and vehicle payments for most consumers.
